Sorry….Brooklyn I meant. I must have Paradise on my brain. I do believe the Kings will be re-opened in 2015 and I trust you know more about Brookyln and its needs than I do. I am sure there were many studies done before a dime went into this project to make sure the audience was there to support this endeavor.

A lot of city money also went into the Oriental in Chicago along with the Cinema Odeon owner to restore the theater and present broadway shows. City didn’t realize there were two sets of books being kept and I believe he wound up in jail. All said, this project at Loews’s Kings will be looked at with a fine tooth comb for all checks & balances from the investor groups involved. The only thing I worry about is the statement made from ACE booking the theater 300+days a year. Does anyone anywhere know of any theatre that is that heavily booked a year. Not even Radio City! And we are talking Bronx, NY

I’m with you Tinseltoes….I hope this isn’t a “pie in the sky”. You would think by now more would have been started. A few workers showing up once in a while sounds like they are just washing it down. Maybe they are waiting for the financing to come through before they send in a team. And it will take quite a full-time team won’t it?

Now thats a vertical sign !!!!!

I had to walk two blocks to see what they were putting on the sign on Thursday nights. Couldn’t wait ‘til Friday when I walked by. You had it easy. By the middle 50’s, there weren’t any bulbs on the vertical sign. Pink neon only and elevator trucks were used to re-gas the tubes. I think maybe there were bulbs at one time when they first updated the sign, because you could see the holes were the bulbs used to be. I wonder what year they did the neon.

I walked on the shiny floor of the Paramount a few years ago when it was being used as a basketball court. Looking up was dazzling to be sure and it wouldn’t be hard to bring the theater back to life. The lobby also was grand. You are right about the developers of the Kings opposing any thought about doing that. I am sure they have plenty of “clout” in Brooklyn and certainly not in their interest..

Paradise, I do have a color night photo of the Paradise in its orange & white glory. How do I post it? And do I need a printer or scanner?

Amazing!!! The Cadillac Palace (once the RKO Palace) in Chicago still have their annunciator displays located on sides of the stage. I bet they also have instructions on the upkeep as well. SWC, you are a treasure yourself!!

Paradise, Wonderful view of the Paradise. Seems unreal a plain lot sits there today. This building looks like it belongs in Europe.

Thanks Paradise, Great photo! I remember very well the end. Even though the marquee was changed ,it was still very impressive with the orange neon and chasing whites. What a beautiful building! This photo shows alot of detail. Should have been saved, but we all went down this “street” before. Got any last of the Marbro?

It always amazes me that New York has those palaces still standing and Chicago lags behind. We do have three downtown, but our Uptown Theatre is still in limbo with no direction it seems. This is our Loew’s Kings! But unlike the King’s, not much going on at Broadway & Lawrence ave.

These two above comments make me want to pack now!!! Is someone filming the day to day work do you think? It would make quite a DVD passed out to opening night crowd.

Agree with the two of you. I can see beyond the ruins of the theater. There is so much beauty there as the pictures above proves. We need a savior not a wrecking ball!!!

Thank you David…. It was worth the wait….I felt I was almost there. The powers of presentation sure knew how to show a special film like this one. I remember seeing “The Robe” in Chicago for the first film in Cinemascope at my neighborhood Balaban & Katz Marbro theater and had the same magical feeling. The theaters where these epics played were just so much part of the whole experience…
