From memory, during the conversion to four screens, Sc1 had a temporary screen & frame erected in front of the old proscenium to enable films to be shown during the work going on behind….

I was shocked and saddened to see this sight, taken feb 5th and half the theatre is already gone… The old pageant lights visible above the crane used to light the stage during the time the theatre was still one screen..

My father used to take me to visit the Odeon around 71 during my time at school, to see Geoff Hornsby the Chief Projectionist, who became a very dear friend… It was through Geoff I actually gained the position of Trainee Projectionist at the Queens.. which I loved and stayed in the cinema industry for nearly forty years.

My favourite movie being the 1969 War Blockbuster:– “Where Eagles Dare” and I remember seeing this at the Queens in 1974 just before I began my career here, all its glory on the 70mm giant screen… never forget it… nothing ever compares to this presentation….

I worked at this theatre from 1975 till closure, and news recently about its impending demolition is very sad, We`ve experienced some great premieres, special screenings, visits by celebrities etc… what a pity to lose such a historic building…

I began my working life as a projectionist here back in 1974,
before been transferred to the odeon in pilgrim street….
I dont think we will ever see a giant screen like it again... During a 70mm screening, there was nothing to compare it.... Picture and Sound quality were outstanding.... Screen size:- 75 x 31`.
I will remember the Queens with great affection….
