The Havelock Drive In was within about 2 miles from the gates of the 2d Marine Aircraft Wing, Cherry Point, NC. I remember attending this drive in a few times, sometimes with a date sometimes not.

Prior to it's closing and than fire, the Squire turned to showing XXX movies like so many theaters did to make ends meet in the 1970's.

I can't believe (but I do accept) that this theatre showed porno and was considered a grindhouse in the mid to late 1970's...I was in the Marines from December 1974 - July 1976 at Cherry Point and NEVER came across this place despite looking for this type of entertainment. In addition, no one ever told me about this joint either. Almost unbelievable on my part.

My uncle Eddie Watson worked the Elkton Drive In's back exit during some of the 1950's. He had a few stories about some goings on. That was also the time when folks were into cars; as he was his entire life. Towards the end of the drive in instead of using speakers they used an AM station to hear the movies.

The Town of Elkton has bought the entire building including to the left and right of the movie theater. It’s use is for town business, admin offices and the police station. In April 2014 my daughter Brooke and I voted in the Town elections in the area of the prior movie theatre’s lobby. The pic located elsewhere in this section is of the box office on the right side and on the right and left sides areas for movie posters of the current feature and of coming attractions.

My mother and father in law met at the State Theater prior to dating. They did get married, had 6 daughters and are still married and alive as of July 5, 2014.

In accordance with the rules of the comment section: The ALLEGED assassin Lee H. Oswald was found and arrested in the Texas Theatre. He was never found guilty or plead guilty in any Court.
