The E-7’s that were there are now in a private screening room in Wisconsin and they’ve been completely rebuilt & painted to brand new condition.
When I installed that “new” (to them) equipment at the 7th Street, it looked like it was one of those ‘left hand didn’t know what the right hand was doing’ groups. Nobody knew what was going on and they carved a huge picture window in the projection booth front wall. Light gets out everywhere in the auditorium when running movies now. Nobody knew how to run a projector, let alone the platter. Perhaps they will see the ‘light’ and learn what real movies & showmanship is all about. Movies can be an important part of keeping the doors open. If people get a bad presentation they’ll never come back. They’ll certainly tell their friends of the bad experience too.
More work has been done on the marquee. Half of the wall that split the auditorium into a multiplex is now gone! Looks like more work is going on to make this a great theater once again!
You mean they replaced all the projection equipment I installed for them two years ago? We put in Simplex XL projector, Simplex SH-1000 soundhead, Strong X60c (3000 watts) lamphouse & power supply, Simplex pedestal, SPECO platter and a Dolby CP50 sound system. This was all the equipment they purchased from the Liberty Theater in Puyallup, Washington. I know they traded in the CP-50 system for a brand new Dolby Digital setup. They had bought all that other projection equipment and had me install it for them. They have idiots running the projection booth so it wouldn’t surprise me if they damaged/ruined something. I told them years ago they needed new seating ASAP. The seats they have now are literally falling apart and hard as rocks. Bad seating drives away many customers and they never tell you about it.
The South Shore 10 crap-plex is barely staying open. I’ve heard many rumors from industry insiders that it is really struggling. They charge way too much money for everything. The whole mall is empty with many empty stores. The Aberdeen-Hoquiam area folks just can’t afford to pay the prices over there at that theater. The area is primed for a good second run or discount theater and either the Aberdeen or D&R Theater would be a good choice. I don’t know how an ‘art’ theater would do in the Aberdeen-Hoquiam area, but I kinda think it would not do anything. Since the Aberdeen has a stage, it could do well as a single screen discount movie house with live stage shows.
Condition is good. Price is around $120,000 if I remember correctly. I’ve lost the real estate & contact info I had. It was a local Aberdeen real estate company though.
They should restore and use the original free-standing boxoffice. If they can’t get a line of 300 people through the boxoffice in 15 minutes, then they don’t know how to sell tickets.
I hate the fact they gutted the auditorium and removed all the neon. Then they dropped the ceiling so low. Ruined ruined ruined! They bastardized the place in my opinion. It should have never been “converted” to a ‘stage’ house in the first place. Why the hell didn’t they stay in the Washington Center? That’s what the Washington Center was built for. It was explained to the tax payers when the Washington Center was originally being built that ALL performing arts groups would
have their home there. Every time I drive by the State Theater I see a crappy paint job, bums hanging out in front and back of the building, trash all over, grafitti, dilapidated marquee with bird crap running down it. They ruined it.
They took the old theater down to PART of one wall to classify as a remodel. This was so the City of Olympia (as operators of this building) would not have to meet their own parking regulations!
The “restored” marquee is rusted out and falling apart again. They never addressed the issue of the pidgeons roosting in the “State” channel letters so now it’s all rusted again.
About a month ago, Channel 7 (KIRO-tv) did a news story about the City of Tacoma shutting down the swap meet for a while. Seems the business owners had no business license to operate a swap meet. Also sellers are required to buy an individual swap meet license too!

First thing to do is get the marquee fixed as it now makes the building look so bad. Please fix the marquee.

Parking around this theater is on-street and extremely limited. There’s also a porno theater four doors down and on the same side of the street.

This theater is poorly run and has become a dump. The projection and sound are bad. Pictures on all screens is very dim.

The marquee has been repainted and the entrance repaved. A couple of weeks ago, the State of Washington repaved the highway in front of the theater.
The new digital sound system is great!
Nice old single screen theater. I sure wish someone would reopen it.
Boy, who picked out the color scheme? Those paint colors are an insult.
Last time I went by this was still a vacant lot.
The rent they want is way too much: $7,000 a month for a single screen theater!
Theater is now equipped for 16mm movies. These 16mm projectors are fully operational and ready to run.
