If the address was 51-05 31st Avenue then the Hobart theatre was razed for the small park shown in the locallive view. Since many of the Google satellite photo’s are at least 4 years of age there could not have been a retail store at 51-05 31st Avenue when this theatre was added. I agree EdSolero that all the evidence leads any rational person to believe the correct address is 51-06 31st Avenue.

As I see it a major obstacle is no one commenting here resides in Ridgewood. It would be a major asset to our goal if we had a native Ridgewoodite to help. Perhaps locating Monica would be a worthwhile endeavor. She could take photographs of the theatre and her website may help also. Could someone contact her?

Are we going to resort to name calling now fella? Perhaps it is time to invoke the new rules and give you a leave of absence from this website. As for being rude isn’t this more a case of the pot calling the kettle black? You are the most rude and obnoxious member of this great community called Cinema Treasures. Perhaps with time I can rise to the occasion and be as rude as you. For now I consider myself an amateur at rudeness compared to you.

Make me an xtra large weenie warmer fella and keep the dinky one for yourself. Perhaps making weenie warmers should be your new vocation.

EdSolero you are the man of the hour. I am very impressed. 51-05 31st Avenue appears to be a park on the locallive view. Someone must have erred on the initial address.

How would you know if my last name was movies fella? Would you have a problem with my last name being movies? How do we know that you are Warren G Harris himself? Perhaps you are using the name of Warren G Harris but your real name is John Smith or perhaps even art theatre. There is no realistic way to prove anyone’s identity on a website. Most intelligent people already understand that.

Jaws of Death features Richard Jaeckel in a low budget shark movie. Jaeckel trains sharks to destroy his enemies. The theme of this movie is in some ways akin to certain fella’s on this website. haha

What does NYC mean fella? Could it be an abbreviation for New York City? When you write ‘all’ do I understand that to mean every single theatre without exception? Is this a factual statement or perhaps it is conjecture on your part? We need to differentiate between the two so no misunderstandings will arise from your comment. If your stating an opinion that should be indicated in your comment. We should be concise and clear in our comments to avoid confusion. Don’t you agree fella?

Very appropo EdSolero. This fella has no problem with pseudonyms when they serve his purpose to create chaos. Perhaps he uses other pseudonyms that we are not yet aware of.

Try to make some sense in your comments fella. Perhaps more people will take you seriously if you do so. There are many writers who do not use their true names. Feel free to research me to your hearts content. I have never claimed to be a theatre historian. If you consider yourself to be a theatre historian perhaps a new occupation is in order. Making unsubstantiated claims and barking at people who may question those claims is not the sign of a true historian. Get over yourself.

Since when are you concerned with accuracy fella? How do we know that your opening date is correct? Take your problems and questions to the New York Times.

Great work. Perhaps in time we will be able to find the exact date of the Madison theatre closing.

I see what you mean now NativeForestHiller. The exterior looks original from the photos I have viewed. Mr Hirschon doing another story could only help our cause. What is the next step?

Perhaps Warren doesn’t understand the question. I will phrase the question very simply. Is a retail store located at 51-05 31st Avenue, Woodside, NY? Could this be another of the numerous inaccurate claims you have been making on Cinema Treasures? Perhaps you made a mistake or never knew the correct answer to begin with. Which is it fella?

I looked at the photo link posted by NativeForestHiller. I’m not sure what I am supposed to see. When you say ‘note the missing generic aluminum pane on the right beneath the marquee’ do you mean the aluminum piece over the entrance doors? Is there any chance of Mr Hirshon doing another Ridgewood theatre story?

A legitimate inquiry was made. It appears that Warren is back to his usual nastiness and sarcasm when he replies to people. I hope the webmaster is monitoring these posts. Warren has been plagued by a number of inaccuracies and inconsistent claims lately. Perhaps one more inaccuracy is of little consequence to him. A detail such as a building being razed or not is an insignificant issue to him.

One thing that makes this theatre special is the fact that it is still open after 90 years. It is also the last operating theatre in this town and it possibly might not survive to see 91 years. Perhaps you would like to join us in our efforts to land mark the Ridgewood theatre. I have never been to this theatre nor do I come from Ridgewood. Yet I am willing to help these fella’s to preserve a piece of history from their past.

What was the closing date of the RKO Madison theatre wally1975? Many of the fella’s have been trying to find that answer for a long time. Perhaps you can shed some light on the subject.

Fella’s I believe the best way to handle this is to set the architect to ‘unknown’. Until such time that someone can substantiate the claim that Thomas W Lamb was the architect of the Ridgewood theatre, I suggest that his name be removed from this theatre page. After doing some internet searches for the Ridgewood theatre and Thomas W Lamb many search results brought me back to Cinema Treasures. This unproven claim is being perpetuated all over the internet due to this website. Even the Wikipedia website refers you back to CT for a list of Thomas Lamb designed theatres including the Ridgewood theatre. If someone finds proof that Thomas Lamb was the architect of the Ridgewood theatre his name can be restored to the top of this page, Better to have no architect then to have the wrong fella listed. If we are serious about land marking this theatre the information must be accurate.

Thanx frankie for speaking with Mr Hirshon. I am ready to land mark this theatre. Keep the wheels in motion fella’s. EdSolero the Ridgewood theatre opened in 1916. It will be 90 years young in december.
