There are still “for sale” and “for lease” signs posted on the doors as of 20 February 2004. I have no idea what the inside is like, but the building survives. One of the first movies I remember seeing, was here, James Cagny in “1-2-3” about 1961. Also saw “Butch Cassidy” and “Kelly’s Hereos” here as well as about a 100 others.

I suppose then that perhaps a parking lot or more retail space would have been a better idea? Sadly bills and taxes have to be paid and the building has to be maintained. If that doesn’t happen, then you get a parking lot, which tends to be a bit harder to recover from. I don’t know why Camera lost the Towne, but they seemed pretty sad about it. If you can show the current management why it would be better/more profitable to show the kind of movies YOU like, they’d probably be happy to do it.

I just saw a story on local news TV that stated that there are NO theatres in Petaluma. As a result, 7 young ladies got together and prompted local officails and redevelopers to include a six-plex in a local downtown redevelopment project. The news showed them breaking ground today.

Most of the buildings in the complex where this theatre stood have been demolished, including the theatre.

I went by this place yesterday and after many years I had to stop and take a look. This theatre always stood out (to me any way) because it is a large building (the picture doesn’t do it justice)in an area where you wouldn’t expect a theatre. Maybe when the freeway came it changed the area. Anyway it looks like it might have been something at one time, but it looks quit dead now except for the 2 retail businesses to the right of the front of the building. Besides some graffiti, the only signs I could see said “Unfit for human occupancy” and another about video surveillance. Also, the address is 552 Bascom Ave. And why is it the Burbank? Did it have another name before? Why not the Bascom?

While it may not sit exactly within the footprint of the Tacoma Mall Theatre, the structure erected in the theatres place is a Krispy-Kreme. In my opinion, pop-corn is better for you. I saw “The Piano” here with “Ace Ventura pet detective” on the other side.

As of November 17, the Towne is no longer a Camera Theatre. Its now the India Movie Center 6 (IMC6) operating as above. I don’t know if the 6 means that is has been twined yet again.

Charles, you are correct. I put that info into the “Add Theatre” page, but it didn’t show up. While we’re at it, the theatre is in the Craftsman style, its one floor (except the restrooms), no balcony and it was reseated about 2 years ago. Also, it may have been part of a small local chain in the 20’s or 30’s as there were several varieties of Mice and Bijous in the area.
