This link leads to a very cool picture of The auditorim of The Market Street Cinema, taken from the balcony. It shows how the strip club was built on the main floor leaving the balcony and rest of the theatre intact. This gives me hope that someone will be able to save this theatre from demolition, if they can deal with the ghosts…. http://3.bp.blogspot.com/–_RFLvjKtYNQ/Ua4An1JIC6I/AAAAAAAAAek/GtMC03BBrzI/s1600/DSCN0318.JPG

It is with heavy hearts we announce that The CLAY Theatre will be closing at the end of August. It is a dark day for San Francisco theatre lovers. Built in 1910 and closing in 2010 100 years of film history comes to a end. The CLAY played host to many film festivals and special events over the years. On closing weekend The CLAY will host one more Rocky Horror, and The Cast is putting on a funeral for the theatre. I have loved my years working at The CLAY, and will miss it! Rumors have it that a condo project will destroy the theatre. Let’s hope not.

The Coronet is no more. Went buy the other day and they have started punching holes in the walls, to make way for the senior center. Also the sign is allmost all the way down just the “Cor” is still up. Bummer, I guess that this theatre was to new for the moratorium.

FIRE——The Strand Theater San Francisco——FIRE
The Strand Theater was delt another blow last night, one of many in recent years. It seems that homeless people squating in the vacant theater started a FIRE. When the Fire Department arrived at Midnight they found flames shooting off the roof. The news reported that the fire was contained to the roof on the front of the building, as in the lobby so hopefully the auditorium was not affected. This theater has fell on hard times as you can read above. Hopefully this does not signal the end of The Strand. There are very fue Theater Buildings left on Market Street, and the entire city for that matter.
