The Orpheum Theater at the corner of 6th & Pierce is actually the third theatre in Sioux City. The second building was known as The Capitol and was remodled by Rapp & Rapp after the building of the present day Orpheum. They did not design the theatre on Nebraska Street, only the theatre on Pierce. I worked at the Orheum from the early 1960’s to the 1970’s and writing a book.

During the 1950’s and 1960’s the manager of the theatre was “Dear Abby’s” father. The projectionist of the IOWA was O.T. Jaynes, the secretary of the projectionist union. He also operated the projectors at the Orpheum, Hollywood and the Capitol.

The Hoolywood Theater was torn down in the late 1960’s because of the City of Sioux City had an urban renewal project for most of the downtown area of Sioux City.

It was the third largest motion picture theatre in Sioux City with the Orpheum and Capitol theaters being larger.

First run movies were shown, including “Lawrence of Arabia”, “Goldfinger” and “How the West was Won”.

Managed by Phil Keough, city manager of the company from Lincoln, Nebraska, the Hollywood was the second theater in the chain, including the Orpheum in Sioux City,.

This is somewhat incorrect, the Affiliated Theaters headquarters was located at the Hollywood Theater, but by 1963 the a chain of theatres from Lincoln, Nebraska. Affiliated was tied in with the Martin Department Store in downtown Sioux City. JSB Amusement ran the 75 Drive In, the Hollywood, the Orpheum and later the 7T7 Drive In located in South Sioux City.

The West Theatre was located on the west side of Sioux City on West 7th Street. The building is still standing, but it is not a theater at this time.
