Located in the 500 block of West Main Street (Route 66), just east of the old City Hall Building, and dangerously close to the Baptist church which they were often at odds with. Destroyed by fire (and brimstone?) in the late 60’s, as I recall.

Typical small town theater, second-run movies, sticky floors and childhood memories.

This is the 500 block of West Main today, none of those remaining buildings look like a former theatre,

According to fire insurance maps as early as 1929, a theater stood at the NE corner of 5th and Main. The lot is now empty except for covered storage area. On 1920 maps, it is labeled as “Tobacco & Billiards,” so it must have become a theater at some point after that. It also appears that the east-west streets were renamed at some point…Main was once Spencer. Another theater was also on this block at 444 W. Main (Spencer at the time) St. according to 1913 and 1920 maps. This theater is gone by the 1929 map and the building was repurposed to be a bank. Perhaps someone has a name to attach to this theater.

The theater was on the left of the two story building and was destroyed by fire, probably in the late 1960s. The dentist I went to was on the upper floor of the two story building. I don’t remember what was on the first floor. The spot where the theater was is now a parking lot.
