This moving picture house was for the African-Americans of Monroe, NC. Only limited information can be gathered from the Miller’s Monroe, North Carolina City Directory (1922-23) and the June 1922 Sanborn (Fire Insurance) Map for Monroe. The manager in 1922 was Chester I. Creech. It is not clear if he was also the owner.

Studying the Sanborn maps it is noted that the theatre was erected behind another building once used for the Opera House(Colored). By 1928 the building is being used by F. A. Crowell’s funeral home. On the 1930 Sanborn Map the building is labeled a dance hall.

Using the current street view, the theatre would have been located on the south side of Windsor at the next cross street (Stewart) – not seen well in this view. Theatre sat approximately on the southwest corner of Windsor and Stewart.
