Originally built as a train station, the Colonial Theatre was one of the first movie house’s in Andover.

By 1941 it had been renamed Playhouse Theater, and continued through to at least 1950.

Hmm, I didn’t see this entry and added this theater again. I have it operational as late as 1967. I remember seeing the movie “Is Paris Burning?” there as a kid.

If I remember correctly, it was located in the town center on Essex St behind the Memorial Library and today the site is occupied by an expansion in the rear of the library.

First movie house in Andover was the Wonderland, which opened in 1909. It was located around the corner from the Colonial, next to the Musgrove building at the beginning of Elm street. I think it is now Indria Hair Salon
