Classic Cinema

Located in the east London district of Mile End, close to Stepney Green. The Mile End Cinema was opened in November 1912 by the East London Picture Theatres Ltd. of 187 Piccadilly. By 1934 it was operated by Ben Jay’s Circuit. In 1935 it was re-named Classic Cinema and was operated by Classic Picture Theatres Ltd. of Regent Street. The seating capacity had been reduced to 423 by 1937.

The Classic Cinema was closed on 7th September 1940, a victim of the conditions during World War II. It never re-opened. Housing was later built on the site, known as Ansell House.
