On January 8, 1937 a building permit was issued to Saul Firestone owner to build a reinforced concrete slab moving picture theatre, with an estimated cost of $30,000., at 65,67,69 Colborne Street. The contractor was architectural firm Kaplan and Sprachman. The Esquire Theatre was opened on June 3, 1937 with Eric Linden in “Sins of the Children”(aka “In His Steps”) & Ida Lupino in “Let’s Get Married”.

On October 13, 1938 a building permit was issued to Saul Firestone for an building extension at the rear of 65-69 Colborne, with an estimated cost of $10,000.

The Esquire Theatre was closed July 25, 1955. The building was demolished in 2010.

My father was a projectionist at this theatre from December 1941 until the Esquire closed in 1955. I saw many movies in this theatre when I was young.
