Joytown Grand Electric Theatre

In the Cowcaddens district of Glasgow, E. H. Bostock opened the Zoo Electric Theatre on 31 January 1911 as one of the attractions in a huge, existing entertainment complex which also included an indoor zoo, a circus and a display of grotesques. (Films had been shown occasionally since as early as July 1897)

The Zoo Electric Cinema closed on 4th September 1911, when the complex closed for redevelopment, and was re-opened on 4th December as the Joytown Grand Electric Theatre. This closed around October 1918.

In December 1998, when my photograph was taken, this large building was occupied by a supermarket, snooker club and Chinatown restaurant.
