Castle Cinema

The Castle Cinema was opened on 13th August, 1914 for William Skipp. It passed to Shipman and King in April, 1938 who modernised the cinema in 1939 to the plans of architectural firm Howis & Belcham, who gave it an Art Deco style. War damage closed the cinema between July, 1944 and September, 1946. S&K closed their older Hertford cinema on 28th November, 1959 with Paul Newman in “The City Jungle”. After a few years it was demolished and a Civic Centre built on the site, which can also show films.
