This building was designed to be used as a garage, but it opened as the Palladium Picture House on 26th December 1921 with “The Old Nest”. It had a 22 feet wide proscenium. The cinema also had a dance hall attached.

It was taken over by Associated British Cinemas(ABC) in 1930 and was equipped with a Western Electric(WE) sound system. ABC leased it to their Regent Cinemas Circuit from May 1933 until 1935. It was then taken over by independent operators for the remainder of its life. It was equipped with CinemaScope in the mid-1950’s and the proscenium was widened to 43 feet.

The Palladium Picture House was closed in 1958. It became a venue for wrestling, and by 1978 it was converted into the first indoor skateboard centre to operate in Great Britain.

The building was demolished in August 1982.

In the 1944 KYB the owners are listed as Gardowan Cinemas Ltd., Palladium Cinema, Bolton. They also operated the Palladium of course at this time.
