Central Picture House

In Greenock, Inverclyde, the Central Picture House opened in December 1916, with 800 seats. The auditorium was entered through a shop.

The frontage was rebuilt in 1921.

By 1931, the Picture House was owned by North of Scotland Cinema Company Ltd.

By 1940, then with 750 seats, it was owned by The Central Picture House (Greenock) Ltd. By 1953 the seating capacity had increased to 1,028. The proscenium was 33ft wide.

The Picture House closed in 1958, by then with 1,048 seats.

By the time I visited, in March 2009, the building was home to a fancy goods and hardware store, Emporium Outlet.
