The Scala Theater opened as a cinema in 1915. It was designed by architect J. de Haan of Amsterdam. In 1928 it was remodeled to the plans of architect Jan Groof. Seating was provided for 800 in orchestra and balcony levels.

It was twinned in 1976 with the downstairs auditorium named the Scoop. The Scala Theatre was closed in 1991 when the owner Geert Hollemans was completing building his new Hoolywood Bioscoop on Marktplain. It is now a Tedi Euro discount store.
