Roxy Theatre

Located in the village of Grassmoor, 3-miles south of Chesterfield, Derbyshire. The 480-seat Electric Palace Theatre was opened by 1914 when it was operated by Corporation Theatre (Chesterfield) Ltd. By 1927 it had been re-named Electric Theatre and was independently operated. It presented pictures & variety. It was equipped with a Metro sound system from the early-1930’s and was operated by Matlock Cinemas Ltd. By 1937 the sound system was changed to one by RCA.

In 1955 it was taken over by the Leeds based Star Cinemas chain and following a remodel was re-named Roxy Cinema with a reduced seating capacity. It was still open in 1963 but had closed by 1966. It has since been demolished and a car dealership now operates on the site.
