Salisbury Picture House

Located in the Newington district to the south of the city centre. The Salisbury Picture House was in a conversion of the Livingstone Mission Hall in 1925. The cinema was upstairs on the first floor of the building, which ran parallel along S. Clerk Street. It was independently operated. Seating was provided for 1,040, all on a single floor. It was equipped with an A.S.J. Dekker cinema organ which had 6 ranks, all in a single chamber, manufactured in Goes Sas on the island of Walcheren, Holland. It was equipped with a Western Electric(WE) sound system around 1929. The organ was removed in 1934, as it was said to have been an unsuccessful installation.

The Salisbury Picture House was damaged by a fire in 1939. Repairs were carried out but almost immediately World War II began, and it was closed in 1943. The building was used for storage for many years. It was later demolished and flats with shops at ground level have been built on the site.
