1961 and Samuel Bronston’s production of “El Cid” was programmed for the Grand Theatre. Management decided that major alterations would be required for the screening of such a big screen epic. The proscenium was widened and a 36ft CinemaScope screen installed. New curtains were hung which featured bright contemporary stripe-ings. A 35mm print was supplied for the engagement with optical sound. I would like to thank Roy Mudge, Perth Cinema Historian for the information on this page. Contributed by Greg Lynch -
