The 830-seat Regal Theater was opened by 1941. It was closed as a single screen in December 1984 following a deteriorating condition. It was tripled and reopened as the Meredith 3-Way Cinema in June 1985. It was not a success and closed by the end of 1985. It was put up for auction in January 1986.
This theater has been converted to an antiques auction house, but some thought was given to preservation, at last check, all the old theater seating is still intact under a raised floor, balcony and screen still and curtain rigging is still intact as well. A grand old theater that sadly needs to be restored to its past glory.

I just moved to Franklin. This theater is a sad little building, in a pretty sad downtown. The whole area is pretty run down. The Regal is definately preserved by neglect, as evidenced by the rusty weathered marquee. The bright side however is the entire area was designated an historic district so there are people working to spruce things up a bit. I moved up here to escape high rents, and I’m sure other people did too… but I figure if this town didn’t take off in the now passing real estate boom, it never will.
If you want to see the inside of the Regal… they are holding one of thier infrequent auction Oct 15th 2006

Graphic Theatres of Boston ran the Regal as of 1942, according to a listing in the 1942-43 Motion Picture Almanac. Graphic also ran the Capitol and the Pastime theaters in Franklin at that time.
The Regal Theater closed as a single-screener in December 1984 because of deterioration, and reopened with three screens as the “Meredith 3-Way Cinema” in June 1985. This was short-lived, and closed by the end of the year. The entire theater went into auction in early-January 1986.
