RKO Rivoli Theatre

Opened with 2,200-seats on September 1, 1921 with a stage production of “Irene”. The following evening it presented on the screen “Mother o' Mine” starring Lloyd Hughes and acts of vaudeville on the stage. By 1927 it was a B. F. Keith theatre. Listed as operating under the RKO name in the 1951 Film Daily Yearbook. Building was eventually demolished.

It was actually across the street from where the Bank of America is today. I believe that J&J owns this land now and it is part of their corporate headquarters.

I remember the Rivoli showing mostly or only Disney movies when I was young, perhaps sometime between 1960 and 1970, or at least only G Rated movies.

This opened on September 1st, 1921. Grand opening ad in the photo section.

Closed on March 14, 1967 with Walt Disney’s “The Adventures of Bullwhip Griffin” and Jack Chaplain in “Git!”. It originally temporarily closed for renovations that was scheduled to reopen by that July, but never happened.
