Chautauqua Mall Movie Theater

The Chautauqua Mall Cinema opened in 1971 by General Cinema Corp. and had the usual William Riseman decor - red and blue wall covering, white concession stand and red carpet. It was part of General Cinema’s Buffalo division. Somewhere along the way it was jettisoned by GCC, I don’t know the date. I saw the place just once. It is now operated by Dipson Theatres, and it is still a twin. It was closed in August, 2023 due to a leaky roof.

Large glass lobby within the mall, a small concession stand – two long theaters one to the left, one to the right – – the restrooms are down a few flights of stairs (below the projection rooms). It’s clean and in good shape for its age, another well run Dipson location.

I believe that this opened in 1971.

Updated with all recliner seating – Dipson is also promising a few more upgrades including larger screens.

Looks like a leaky roof did them in…

“In its release, the company alluded to ongoing challenges and “circumstances beyond our control” as leading to the decision. Specifically, Dipson Theatres cited issues with a “leaky roof” within the theater at the Chautauqua Mall.

“We recognize that the leaky roof has been an inconvenience to you, our valued customers, and we deeply apologize for any discomfort it may have caused during your visits to our establishment,” Dipson said.

“Your support has meant so much to us, and we are genuinely sorry that we can no longer provide you with the quality service and experience that you deserve. Please know that this decision was not made lightly.”
