Drift Theater #2

The first Drift Theater has its own page on Cinema Treasures. This second Drift Theater was opened on November 20, 1947 with Jon Hall in “Last of the Red Men”. It was still open in 1955 when it was listed in Film Daily Yearbook with 250-seats. It had gone from listings in 1956.

Most of it is gutted, although a small section on the side is used for a tyre business and the original paybox remains at the street entrance.

A fellow named John Newsome commenting on a 2015 Facebook post about the Drift Theatre said the first time he went to a movie theater was the Drift, in 1968. The movie was Clint Eastwood in “The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly” (apparently took a while for movies to reach this small town, as it was a 1966 release.)
