Centre Theatre

Located in a drastic conversion of an existing building. The Centre Theatre was opened on November 7, 1941 with George Formby in “Come on George”. It was operated by Odeon Canada, the briefly by Cineplex Odeon and finally as an independent. It was closed on January 8 1987 with Eddie Murphy in “The Golden Child”.

Looking at the third picture in the set, it appears that the building that once housed the Centre Theatre is the one with olive-colored upper two stories to the right of the building on the corner in the Google street view picture above. It is a Salvation Army Services Center.

I remember going to this theater through the early ‘80’s. E.T…Temple of Doom…Flash Gordon..Balcony was cool

Once operated by Canadian Odeon Theatres, briefly operated by Cineplex Odeon, last operated independently. The Centre Theatre closed on January 8, 1987 with “The Golden Child”. The film was transferred to the nearby Port Elgin Twin Cinemas after its final screening.
