The Plaza Cinemas were opened by Famous Players around 1975 in the K-Mart Plaza (now the Smythe Street Plaza) on Smythe Street in Fredericton. At its opening, the Plaza Cinemas originally had two screens, each seating 388 and 230 respectively.
In later years, Empire Theatres took over management of the Plaza Cinemas and added two more screens seating 216 and 227, bringing the seating total in the expanded fourplex to 1,061. The Plaza Cinemas closed in 1995 when Empire opened the 10-screen Studio 10 at Regent Mall (now Cineplex Fredericton).

This web page with many nostalgic recollections of the Plaza Cinemas (among other things) says that the expansion to four screens was part of extensive renovations that were undertaken in 1982-83. The building has been converted to retail space.
