Lounge Theatre

Long before the Huron Theatre opened here, the site was occupied by the Lounge Theatre, which according to the Evening Huronite opened in 1908 with about 100 seats.

Sanborn Maps of 1916 show the theatre about twice the width as the 1910 maps and expanded from #53 and #55 to #57. The 1926 Film Daily Year Book lists the lounge with 400 seats.

The Lounge Theatre was completely razed in 1927 and the first State Theatre in Huron opened at the site on January 27, 1928. In late-1928 the first State Theatre was sold and renamed the Huron Theatre.

The building that the Lounge opened in was very old, dating to sometime before 1884. It was a large two story wooden building with brick veneer. The 1904 map shows the original theater space (the east half of the larger theater shown above) as a furniture store.
