The Meyers Lake Cinema 1 & 2 opened on January 26th, 1973 by Broumas Theatres. Opening movies were “M.A.S.H.” & “Conquest of the Planet of the Apes”. It started to show adult movies in 1976 and closed in 1986.

Did Broumas try and make a comeback? They went bankrupt in 1967.

“Due at Meyers Lake Plaza
Shopping Center Theater Planned The 52-theater Broumas Theatres, Inc., of Silver Spring, Md., announced a 900-seat motion picture theater will be built for the firm at the Meyers Lake Plaza Shopping Center.
The theater will be built by Stephen C. Baytos & Associates of Youngstown on an eight-acre tract north of the Family Fair discount department store.
MR. BAYTOS built the shopping center and the 30th st NW Plaza Shopping Center. He also constructed other shopping centers in Ohio and other states.
He said details of the additional retail outlets in the area would be disclosed later.
THE BUILDING, 60x150-feet, will be of steel, glass and masonry construction.
Mr. Limbert said the theater will be equipped to “show everything from black and white motion pictures to Cinerama.”
The cost of the building and equipment will be approximately $350,000, he said.
The theater, which will be known as the Meyers Lake Theater, will be open seven days a week and show first run motion pictures, he said.
JOHN G. BROUMAS, president of the theater chain, said it was decided to build a theater here because of the big strides Canton has made in rehabilitation of its downtown area and other progressive steps.
Melvin Katz, who maintains the Midwest division office of Broumas in Youngstown, will supervise the new theater.
Broumas Theatres has four theaters in Youngstown and is building a fifth theater there. It also has theaters in New York, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia and the District of Columbia.
Season Opens With Benefit At Showcase Showcase Theater at Massillon will open its fifth season Wednesday, June 17, with all profits on the first night por-duction of “My Fair Lady” going to the Council for Retarded Children of Stark County.
The Council plans to extend its summer camp from one to two weeks with the proceeds, according to J. Charles Barnhart, Showcase producer-director.
A professional cast will be featured for the first time this season at the theater. Following “My Fair Lady,” the theater will present “Wildcat,” “West Side Story,” “Sound of Music,” “The Unsinkable Molly Brown” and “Gypsy.”
The theater plans to make the benefit performance an annual event.
Mayor and Mrs. Stanley A. Cmich will be guests of honor at the performance.
