Cineplex opened this five-screen cinema in Hillcrest Mall on October 23, 1980. Cineplex Odeon switched the theatre to a second-run policy after opening its larger ten-screen Elgin Mills cinema, especially after Famous Players opened a 10-screen SilverCity theatre nearby on May 8, 1998. Hillcrest Cinemas held its last shows on November 19, 1998, and closed the day after.

Grand opening ad posted. I believe this was the 4th for the chain after Eaton Centre, Kitchener, Ottawa Vanier.

This cinema’s opening films include “The Divine Nymph,” “Union City,” “The Changeling,” “Last Tango in Paris,” and “My Brilliant Career.” It closed on November 19, 1998, closing with “One True Thing,” “Urban Legend,” “The Bride of Chucky,” “Apt Pupil,” “A Night at the Roxbury,” “Rush Hour,” and “The Mighty.”
