The Casino Theatre was opened by 1910. On March 27, 1915, The Galveston Tribune reported the reopening of the remodeled former Casino Theatre as the Rex Theatre. Features were an absolutely fireproof operating room and a new rest room for ladies and children. The movie billed was James Gordon in “The Oath of a Viking”.

The Casino Theatre’s advertisements, along with the Vaudette Theatre and Leader Theatre, go back to 1910 in the Galveston Tribune as being under the management of Hulsey Theatres. Hulsey Theatres noted they had the exclusive rights to all Essanay films in Galveston. All three theatres were listed in American Motion Picture Directory 1914-1915, complete with addresses. The Rex Theatre became the Strand Theatre. On April 15, 1922 it was renamed Key Theatre. It suffered dame from a fire on January 30, 1940. Repairs were carried out and it reopened. The Strand Theatre was closed on June 20, 1951.

It has since been demolished.
