Eureka Drive-In

In June 1953, Boxoffice magazine reported that the Eureka Drive-In had opened “a half mile east of town”. It had opened on April 20, 1953 with Gilbert Roland in “Ten Tall Men”. It was owned by Mr. and Mrs. M. Aley and held 286 cars.

The 1955-56 Theatre Catalog included the Eureka, capacity 300, owners Aley and Strowig.

A 1969 aerial photo showed an intact drive-in immediately south of the Greenwood Cemetery about a half mile east of Eureka. It was closed in 1970.

Its screen was gone by 1981. The drive-in site is now an empty wooded lot. A house of the other side of the street has the address of 1472 Q Road.

A closer address is 1475 Q Rd, Eureka, KS.

This puts it right in the middle of the lot. The drive-in was demolished by 1981, including the projector booth/concession stand.

Opened on April 20, 1953 with Gilbert Roland in “Ten Tall Men” along with an unnamed cartoon, unnamed comedy, and a sports reel. The Eureka Drive-In most likely closed in 1970.
