Located in Port Glasgow, Renfrewshire. The Palace Cinema was built and opened in 1914. By 1934 it was operated by the A.B. King circuit and by 1937 it had been renamed Eclipse Pictures, still operated by A.B. King. It was equipped with an Electricord sound system.
In late-1938, plans were drawn up to replace the Eclipse Pictures with a new 1,900-seat cinema designed to the plans of architects Lennox & McMath to be named Eclipse Cinema. The Eclipse Pictures was closed and demolished in early-1939.
The empty shell of the new building was completed when in September 1939 the start of World War II halted the scheme. It wasn’t completed until 1952 when it opened as the Plaza Cinema (it has its own page on Cinema Treasures)
