Opened on May 6, 1983 as an adult movie theatre with “Roommates” & “The Games Women Play”. It was initially known as The Roxy/Pussycat Theatre, sharing telephone directory space with the Pussycat in Ventura (formerly the Mayfair Theatre).
On November 15, 1985, it was taken over by Metropolitan Theatres and renamed the College Cinema which opened with Diego Luna in “Kiss of the Spider Woman”. It became the Goleta Theatre in 1986 and operating as such through to its closing on September 3, 1990 with Kiefer Sutherland in “Flatliners”.
An unassuming stuccoed building, it’s now divided into retail offices, and, as perhaps a nod to its former incarnation, a bar named the “Bak Dor” sits at the rear. The marquee out front remains, though - a rounded square bolt-on job, nothing fancy.

I installed all of the projection equipment in this house for Walnut Properties/Pussycat Theatres. Seems like a long time ago now.
