Pleasant Hour Theatre

This crude early theater was located on the ground floor of an implement dealership built sometime between 1898 and 1904. This simple building was a two story wooden structure clad in tin. The theater had opened by January of 1911.

If it operated through 1914-15, then it must have been the Pleasant Hour listed in the AMPD for that year. In any case, by 1916 the building was being used as a confectionery, and movies had moved next door into the Grand Opera House, a far superior facility.

The building was demolished no later than 1927, when the J.C. Penney Co. opened a store on this corner.
