Located in the Darling Harbour district, close to the city centre. The IMAX Cinema Sydney is a replacement for the earlier IMAX Theatre Sydney (it has its own page on Cinema Treasures). Built on almost the same footprint as its predecessor as part of a new development named The Ribbon, the IMAX Cinema Sydney was opened on October 11, 2023 with “Avatar: The Way of Water”. It is operated by the Event Cinemas chain. It is equipped with an IMAX dual laser projection system, a 12 channel sound system and a screen measuring 29m x 24m.
