Bill Boyd opened the Boyd Drive-In in 1949 at the corner of Highway 97 and Leathead Road. It was the second drive-in theater in British Columbia after the Cascades Drive-In in Burnaby (1946). At that time the Boyd Drive-In sometimes referred to as “Boyd’s,” held 350 cars, per the Motion Picture Almanac.

In 1963, the drive-in was renamed the Rutland Drive-In. In 1966, it was renamed the Kelowna Drive-In and was expanded to 600 cars. The Kelowna Drive-In closed after the 1986 season.

A car dealership occupies the site today.
