Previous Names: Idyl Hour Theatre
The Idyl Hour Theatre is reputed to be the first movie theatre to operate in Hollywood, and it opened in 1911, operated by P.Tabor. It was located on the north-east corner of Hollywood Boulevard and Vine Street, close to where the Pantages Theatre is now located. On June 7, 1912 it was renamed Acme Theatre.
In 1913, the theatre was relocated further west to 6415 Hollywood Boulevard and it was renamed Iris Theatre. This location was to the eastern end of the block which contains the Warner Pacific Theatre.
As a footnote; The Iris Theatre was so successful that a new Iris Theatre was constructed across the street at 6508 Hollywood Boulevard in 1918, and in 2009, this building remains (currently closed) as the Fox Theatre.
