The Sunset Theater is listed as operating from at least 1941. It was remodeled in 1947, with a total seating capacity of 780, with 695 in the orchestra level and 85 in the small balcony. The interior was decorated in a floral mural motif by artist R. V. Churchill, formerly of Massachusetts.

•1922â€"opened (estimated from 1957 fire story indicating 35 years old
•1929â€"silents shown only two days per week due to talky competition
•1953â€"permit denied to operate drive-in theater on adjacent parking lot
•1955â€"remodeled and new owners
•1956â€"closed
•1957â€"building burned

The building may have burned, but I believe it still stands, having a stair-stepped pyramid motif in its street elevation (see street view in map link).

Last time I was by there the building was housing a garage.

The Sunset Theater was listed in the 1933-34 Dallas City Directory, but not in the 1930 directory.
