The $75,000 Skyline Drive-In Theatre launched July 2, 1949 becoming Blytheville’s first drive-in beating its rival Starvue Drive-In by three months. It was operated by Westley & Tom Bloomer. Located four miles north of downtown, the city couldn’t support both the Starvue Drive-In and the Skyline Drive-In.
The short-lived Skyline Drive-In had three operators in three years rebranding as the Cotton Boll Drive-In on July 27, 1951 and was soon renamed North Drive-In. The ozoner closed for the season on November 10, 1951 with “Footlight Varieties” and “Wanderer of the Wasteland”. It does not appear to have ever reopened making those the final titles. It has since been demolished.

Cotton Boll is a unusual name!!
Why was it called Cotton Boll?
Probably because of the cotton farming in the area.
The Exhibitor, June 27, 1951: “In Blytheville, Ark., Bloomer brothers, Belleville, Ill., owners, have taken a lease on the former Skyline Drive-In, a 400-car project, owned by the United Drive-In, Inc., controlled by W. B. Robertson, Houston, Tex., and reopened the theatre as the North Drive-In.”
