This opened in 1923 as the Kasugakan, named after the Nara clan, who provided the land, as well as a nearby street called “Kasugi-dori” (or Kasuga Street). It was renamed the Hanno Shochiku right after World War II.

Not just Shochiku, but the Hanno Shochiku also screened other Japanese and foreign content from Toho and Toei. This was also the last movie theater operating in the Hanno City area following the closure of the nearby Hanno Nikkatsu during the 1960s.

The Hanno Shochiku closed for the final time in 1991 because of the death of its owner. The former theater was renovated and now houses the current location of Okawa Gakuen High School.
