This place was always packed on weekends. But when David Lettermen moved to the newly-refurbished Sullivan Theatre the days were counting down for the New David.
My friends and I recently discovered this movie theatre. While it’s nothing to write about, décor-wise, it still has a sort of small town movie theatre feel to it.
I would love to see the interior of these: Williamsburgh Theatre, Commodore, Marcy, and Ridgewood. Any idea if al the interiors of a new theatre were photographed?
I am interested in the magazine that is all about the movie theater industry…I am interested in some Brooklyn, NY theaters like the Williamsburg and Commodore.
This building and some others have been demolished. I am sure they’re going to put up apartments. I will try and get there and take some pictures. The old Williamsburgh Playhouse, now a 99 cent store, is all that remains of the many theaters that once stood along Broadway.
I doubt the interior is still intact. I remember going to a DMV office located in what probably was the auditorium. As I recall the lobby was located on Jamaica and the theatre on the side street. Does anyone know what the interior was like?
Why only 12 years for such a brutal killing? Is that his picture at the top of the page? I don’t understand how the law works. Someone butchers a human being and they get anything short of life in prison…
I have read many comments that make mention of the year a building was constructed. I have searced ACRIS (NYC register site) but they only have info dating back to 1966.
There is a building on Graham Avenue, it was Schetcters furniture. It looks like it was a movie theatre. It’s small so it was probably a very cheap place.
Those of us who care and cherish these movie theaters appreciate them for what they are. But others only see dollar signs and could care less about their past as a place to escape the dullness of everyday life.
I went to the Polk a few times before it was closed and it was a disgrace. The bathrooms were disgusting. It’s a shame this old place was demolished. The auditorium was big.
If the theater is vacated by the dance company I am sure the building will be torn down and a new apartment complex will take its place. It’s sad but given the value of the land it is no surprise. I have no inside knowlege and am merely making an assumption.

Most people don’t want to go to the Bronx and there’s limited parking.

I have tried lately but why are some owners/managers against people taking pictures of interiors?

There is indeed a gym, Blink Fitness, occupying the theater.
How I regret not going to this theatre more. I saw The Exorcist here and Saturday Night Fever and my mother dragged me to several stage shows.

I have checked out the Rent a Center. It certainly gives the impression of being a theater.

I noticed today a small theater along Myrtle Avenue. It still has the marquee but it is some kind of computer repair business.
If the theater is vacated by the dance company I am sure the building will be torn down and a new apartment complex will take its place. It’s sad but given the value of the land it is no surprise. I have no inside knowlege and am merely making an assumption.
