They didn’t stay open after Broadway closed did they?

Vindanpar, for the main Roadshow theater in the Hamid chain It had no curtains or masking. The Roxy was double the size of the Virginia had curtains and masking and a stage. One of the screens from the Virginia was moved to the Music Hall at the Steel Pier. When the screen was lifted up you could see on the bottom where it said Virginia Theater. I was only in this theater several times for Hello Dolly. Honestly I was not impressed. David Zornig than you too for the photos. I had no clue that South Pacific played there. The only early films I remember there before 67 were the SOM and It’s A Mad Mad Mad Mad World. There was a post card in the 60’s that showed the Virginia had The Carpetbaggers but no clue what year that was. It was an exception for a boardwalk theater to be open during the winter. Hamid only kept the Hollywood and Center open during the winters. The Shore stayed open all year in 1969 after Oliver closed.

Did the Town Cinema that was Frank Theater also close? They played Jaws the summer it opened. Saw Tommy here at the Tilton when it was a single screen theater.

Would love to see the red design marquee converted back to the Midtown marquee.

My only concern is will it kill what films the Prince shows.

That would be awesome for Netflix to run the theater. They actually need to release their films like Amazon Studios do as full length feature films. Until they do, I don’t see the Academy taking them serious and awarding one of their films best picture.

It was the summer of 1967. That was out first year in AC. Prior to that they had The Sound Of Music for two summers. George Hamid kept the theater open all winter because business was so good. That was rare for a boardwalk theater.

They were beyond horrible. It was like sitting in your living room. After seeing The Rose at the Ziegfeld in 70MM than after it transferred here and taking a friend to see it, horrible isn’t even the word.

It is there Vindanpar in the Roadshow disc. It is recorded weird you actually have to go in and choose which audio you want to use, Dolby Digital or DTS and on the Blu Ray menu not the disc menu

For me I think the RPX is a waste of money. Spending the extra money to see bars at the top and bottom of the screen is a waste.

Jojoa the previews at the Cinemark here were in scope. I thought that was weird. Yeah I went to You tube after the posts above. A few years back they showed a movie that was filmed in the rare 2.00 in 2.35 aspect ratio.

I thought The Lion King Live was 2.35 aspect ratio. All the previews were in scope. UGH

Status should be open at least until the closing on July 14. I hate that this theater is closing. My post from December 8, 2014 proved correct even though AMC has proven to be just as bad as Carmike in the theaters they took over from Carmike.

If I remember bigjoe59, the day it started was when they advertised now continuous performances. The three NJ theaters I referenced above were never roadshow engagements.

Hello Dolly definitely did. It also did at the Randolph in Philly. If I remember correctly, fox decided to make it continuous showings starting in June of 1970. When it opened at the Virginia in Atlantic City on June 24, 1970 it was continuous performances as was the Ocean in Wildwood, NJ and the Village Theater in Ocean City NJ.
